How you do anything is how you do everything
It’s the smallest actions and habits that truly shape your end goals.

My sons are so tired of hearing me say this, but I really feel this simple statement transforms how we show up in all areas of our life. We often think that our lives are defined by big moments: landing the dream job, finishing the marathon, or launching the business. But it’s the smallest actions and habits that truly shape these end goals. "How you do anything is how you do everything" is a simple yet profound statement that highlights this truth.
Consider this: if you rush out the door every morning leaving your house a disaster, or are always skipping the gym, avoiding the small follow up calls with clients, that attitude might carry over into your work, relationships, and bigger responsibilities. Small patterns of neglect, procrastination, or carelessness can ripple into larger areas of life. Conversely, if you commit to doing even the smallest task with focus, integrity, and care, you’re training yourself to bring those same qualities to the bigger things. It reminds us that the quality of effort we bring to the smallest of tasks mirrors how we approach the larger challenges in life.
Why does this matter?
- Integrity Becomes a Habit: When you hold yourself to high standards in small tasks, it becomes second nature to uphold those standards in larger endeavors.
- This Builds Trust: Others notice how you approach the little things. Whether it’s a boss, coworker, or friend, consistent care builds trust and credibility.
- Momentum Breeds Success: Small actions, done well, build momentum. Completing minor tasks with intention leads to greater energy and confidence when tackling bigger goals.
Remember, the greatest athletes don’t only train hard on game days. They bring the same discipline to every single workout, every single meal, and every moment of recovery. How they train during off-season determines how they perform under pressure. Same with Entrepreneurs and Business Owners: Successful entrepreneurs understand that success isn’t just about the big decisions. It’s about consistently managing day-to-day details, showing up for their team, and holding themselves accountable to their vision. I am still learning how to apply this to every facet of my life and its a struggle for many tasks I’d rather avoid. That is why I can never lose the extra 10 pounds, or why I am always rushing through preparing my documents for tax season but for the most part I really do try to give everything my all. Thoughtful emails, phone calls instead of texts and committed 100 percent to all my clients all the time!
The seemingly “small” things in life aren’t insignificant - they are the true opportunities to practice who you want to become.
